Very good food, friendly service. Small menu, don't expect a lot of choice, but everything in it is flavorful.
Loved the rolls, they have a different taste that was thoroughly enjoyable.
Wonderful service, very different flavors, fresh and well cooked.
I went for dinner with friends and it was delicious. Great curries and friendly service. A must!
This is a new restaurant that has opened this year (2010) on Gloucester St. in Ottawa. The atmosphere is quaint and relaxed. The restaurant occupies the lower floor of a house that has been converted into a dining room.
I ordered Beef Curry (Amethar Hin) for lunch at a cost of $9.99. The food was very tastey. The beef and vegetables were fresh and hot and it came with soup and rice. It was a simple dish but tastey. I feel that I got fair value for what I paid. Their prices are in the range of what I usually pay at Tim's for a soup and sandwich. Service was prompt and friendly. As I left, the lady helped me with my things and saw me to the door thanking me for my visit.
I would recommend this place for lunch.
I've been to this restaurant a few times, and the food is consistently delicious. The chicken curry lunch special is a real find - tender, perfectly spiced chicken for a reasonable price. The service is great, too. I was really clumsy one day, and dropped half of my veggies on the floor. The owner (a really lovely woman) made me feel like I wasn't a big clutz, and even brought me more freshly cooked veggies. I will keep going back for the great food and personal service!
I first went to this restaurant a couple of days after it opened and have been back several times since. The food is consistently delicious-especially the national dish Mohinga and the shrimp and beansprout appetizer is to die for. The curries are excellent. However, the service is poor. Orders are not properly noted, things are spilled and the servers just disappear and are inattentive even when they are around. I know this is a family-run restaurant but unless they shape up, the restuarant will bite the dust. That will be such a pity because it has introduced absolutely first-rate Burmese food into Ottawa.
I give the rangoon a 'very good" instead of an excellent.
Consistently excellent food, friendly service, great prices. End up there at least once a week. Can't stay away!!!
I read a glowing review in an Ottawa newspaper and, based on that, decided to give it a try. My wife and I went there for lunch on a weekday. We found Rangoon to be decidedly fair to average. The food was adequate and the service a little inattentive, but not bad. We both love SE Asian cuisine but we doubt we'll be rushing back here anytime soon. We're not sure why this place is so highly rated/reviewed. Can anyone tell me whether we were diappointed because we went for lunch, rather than dinner? Any other reason?
